The actual “Journey to the Centre of the Tardis” Clara dress from Urban Outfitters was sold out and I couldn’t find it anywhere I looked (not that I’d probably be able to afford what people would charge for a sold out item used on popular TV), but I liked the dress so much that I designed some fabric and made my own!
This dress took roughly three hours to make after school today.
This looks fantastic!! How did you design the fabric!!
I designed the fabric as a PNG image using the circle paintbrush in GIMP after looking at about 20 different pictures of the dress to determine “No, that’s not sequins. Yes, the pattern repeats logically” and such.
After that I uploaded the photo to spoonflower.com and used their custom design option to order the fabric. It took about two yards of 36” wide fabric to make the dress. :)
I am very impressed. I was looking over at spoonflower last week to see if anyone had posted the fabric pattern and had thought to myself that if it came down to it I would have to figure out the print and design my own. You have given me hope! How did you repeat the pattern, just out of curiosity.
It looks sort of like this.
I basically used a red background with a combination of longer strokes and different sized circles in black, burgundy, plain old red, reddish-pink, and white. They sort of fall in vertical lines. Then I connected chains with thin lines, because I think the pattern is meant to mimic sequins. Best of luck to you if you decide to make your own!
You are brilliant!

There are some people on eBay going around and bidding multiple times on Clara’s items, unnecessarily jacking the prices.
Please STOP. This is incredibly, horribly rude for those who ACTUALLY want the item. This has happened a few times on items I’m interested in and it…
I was bidding on two dresses that kept going up and up and up.. Its pretty disappointing to be outbid on something two minutes after you are winning. Oh well..
